I describe my ongoing lyrics writing projects. Where I get my ideas, how I match my words with other people's music, which little helpers I use...
This is what I had written to match Adrian's tune:
I came across this beautiful girl
(I) tried to start some small talk
her good looks put my mind in a whirl
(I) tried to not make her balk
somehow my guileless words got her confused
she frowned and looked at me slightly bemused
I came across this beautiful girl
tried to start some small talk
she looked foreign, I tried the approach
using some words in Spanish
"quieres pasear conmigo?"
I may have sounded foolish
this time my words seemed to get through
she smiled, saying "con mucho gusto"
she looked foreign so I tried the approach
using some words in Spanish
we switched to non-verbal exchange
silently she led me
our strangeness felt not at all strange
when finally she had me
while we communicated wordlessly
I learnt how hassle-free a talk can be
we switched to non-verbal exchange
silently she led me
****
This is what I discarded:
then she just smiled and reached for my hand
and in silence we walked
as with words I was at my wit's end
we let our bodies talk
our strangeness felt not at all strange
when we let our bodies talk
she smiled and silently she took my hand
I had got through to her in the end
our strangeness felt not at all that strange
although in silence we walked
we switched to the non-verbal exchange
letting our bodies talk
****
And this is the result (Words: Adrian Chapman & Bernd Harmsen)
I came across this beautiful girl
tried to start some small talk
her good looks put my mind in a whirl
“I hope she’ll talk to me”, I thought
somehow my guileless words got her confused
she frowned and looked at me slightly bemused
I came across this beautiful girl
but we never would talk*
she looked local, I tried the approach
using some words in Spanish
“quieres pasear conmigo?”
I may have sounded foolish
But this time my words seemed to get through
she smiled, saying “con mucho gusto”
she was local, she acted impressed
for speaking some words in Spanish
we switched to non-verbal exchange
she’s so close, our skin brushes
our strangeness felt not at all strange
Feel her breath & gentle touches,
We understood, communicated wordlessly
I learnt how natural not talking can be
we switched to non-verbal exchange
and she finally had me
* should be altered, mabe "hardly" could be used instead of "never".
