I've begun writing for a Persian artist, trying to transform one of his songs to English. It's about Phoenix, the one who rises from the ashes, i.e. mythological stuff with political implications, maybe a bit similar to my own "Spartacus". I've put all my other projects on hold.
I've already begun bookmarking links that deal with Phoenix, or Simurgh as it is called in Persia. Wikipedia always is a primary source for me. Next I will put down expressions and phrases that may be used in the lyrics.
The second step will be listening to the song again and again to get a feeling for its meter. The tune reminds me of songs I have heard in Turkey and Greece, rather different from the music I use to write for.
