I describe my ongoing lyrics writing projects. Where I get my ideas, how I match my words with other people's music, which little helpers I use...
Someone pointed out that I've written and published quite a few rather dark song lyrics recently. He described "black waters" as actually very depressing. He's right! There is no hint of hope or light in "black waters". I even replaced the line "I'm worried 'bout my sanity" with "I doubt my own sanity" to make sure that this line could not possibly be interpreted as being meant ironical (the phrase I used first is too commonly used, you see). And although "I'm leaving" is not negative at all, it is not exactly a happy or uplifting song either, songs about people (me!) dying hardly ever are. Lyrical-wise it's similar to "farewell". Small wonder as it's about the same subject. Chronologically, "I'm leaving" would have to come before "farewell" (I'm thinking of a song cycle that I have in mind here).
Anyway, time for some happy stuff: "I wonder how you happened to me".
It goes:
we'd only met few times before
suddenly you stood in my door
you smiled, sayin' "here's today's surprise"
I saw a promise in your eyes
I said "come in for a cup of tea,
it's rare someone comes seing me"
we talked until deep in the night,
got up to take a walk and greet the morning light
I wonder how you happend
I wonder how you happend
I wonder how you happend to me
since then you've never left my side
you're my girl, my joy and pride
with you, my love, I'll spend my life
we'll found a fam'ly with you as my wife
CHORUS
fate, luck, or destiny - I don't care
I take things as they come
you could have had so many lovers
I'm glad that I'm the one
CHORUS
The first two lines are autobiographical. The girl who should become my wife visited me in Berlin 37 years ago. The rest is history ;-) In the third verse I sort of turned back the time to, say, two or three years later.
