* writing the verses

It's basically the same procedure as with the chorus: define the meter, find matching lines, check them against the tune. Content-wise the verses should either tell a story or describe the situation or mood that leads up to the chorus which contains the central message of the song.

This is the first verse that I put down:

we don't need don't need your good will
just due credit for our deeds and skills
we do hate being patronized
by old farts who live behind time [or: living behind time]

"patronized" and "time" are not perfect rhymes but should do. The rhyming pattern of the verse is A A B B, whereas the chorus is A A A A.

I wrote another verse that begins:

you push us through your rotten school
that's designed to preserve your rule

...

I then decided to make the second verse I had written the first verse in the song to obtain a kind of chronology.
