I describe my ongoing lyrics writing projects. Where I get my ideas, how I match my words with other people's music, which little helpers I use...
how far had we got? I believe step four comes next:
* writing the chorus
I shifted lines to and fro, listening to the tune again and again while thinking my lines sort of into the tune to see if and how they might fit in, until I contented myself with this version:
you don't
deserve our respect
scorn and derision's what you'll get
we'll make you regret
now or ever - no respect
You will note that the third line does not at all match the pattern of my template: "just you step out of line" has six syllables, whereas "scorn and derision's what you'll get" has got eight. Nonetheless, it works - at least in my mind. Holger begins the line with a pause, the vocals beginning at the second beat. The line that I suggest would have to begin as an upbeat, i.e. one note before the first beat of the new bar. Then it can actually work.
It had been in my mind from a very early point, that I'd like to write some kind of yet another angry-young-men's song in the manner of "won't get old": the older generation having no empathy (respect) for the needs of the young people who, in reverse, deny the old ones their respect.
