Melanie (revised)

First I intended to let the text begin rather harmlessly, in the manner "were my words too harsh", and "did I touch you too hard". But the expression "touch sb too hard" did not seem to work in English (in German it would be seen as a rude and sarcastic remark; meanwhile I've found "to be hard on sb", or "to treat sb harshly"). That's why I  wrote "struck too hard", which to me seemed a) too direct, and b) not exactly well phrased. "To strike" means "to hit hard", so "to strike hard" would be tautologous. I changed it into "hit hard". (I actually first mistook "stroke" for the past tense of "to strike", but that's a different story). Still, the first verse looked too straight and direct to me. The words are supposed to increase in intensity over the verses. Therefore, I now decided to place yet another verse first:

Melanie, please pardon me
if I caused you pain
Melanie, please pardon me
if your pleas were in vain

The altered 2nd verse goes:

Melanie, please pardon me
if my words were too harsh
Melanie, please pardon me
if I hit you too hard

Unfortunately, now the song could become rather long and samey. I therefore decided to change its structure as well:

Verse Verse Chorus Verse Verse Chorus [instrumental part] Verse Chorus Outro

The verses are quite short, so this structure could work.
