I describe my ongoing lyrics writing projects. Where I get my ideas, how I match my words with other people's music, which little helpers I use...
On the Songwriter101 board a musician has begun some kind on competition: lyricists are asked to write lyrics matching his tune. He then will just pick the best. Although I don't care much for a) this kind of competion, and b) working for anonymous blockheads, I felt intrigued nonetheless because writing to match foreign music is kind of my 'specialty'.
Here is the tune: femalepop133
I began working on the chorus. The first chorus begins at 0:36.
I walk on a sunray, darling
my tightrope is made of pleasure
I bathe in the sunlight, darling
each time I can be with you
I walk on a sunray, darling
whenever we are together
I bathe in the sunlight, darling
each time I can be with you
I first wrote "a tightrope that's made of pleasure". But I found that quite un-singable.
Next I added verses that are supposed to tell the story:
when we met the first time
you spilled some coffee on my dress
you were quite embarrassed
and I fell in love
you saw me to my door
I said that my room was in a mess
I was quite embarrassed
and then we made love
The second lines of these verses don't fit perfectly. Therefore, the tune would have to be adapted a bit. But then, as the tune goes at the moment it would be quite difficult to sing anyway. In my mind my words worked nicely :-)
The very last lines of the song - the outro - match the first two lines of the verses. I wrote:
since we met the first time [to sort of close the circle]
I've been under your spell
Today I added the bridge that begins at 2:03:
I would not want to put you under pressure
I know how things are
the time and love that you can spend on me
goes only this far
I'm gonna take what I get and I will seize
each day we share
and what tomorrow will bring that we will see
I don't care
I'll post the complete text on my lyrics pages
(on "latest.htm" at the moment - that's the file that is displayed in the left hand window, later it will be moved into the archives)
