I describe my ongoing lyrics writing projects. Where I get my ideas, how I match my words with other people's music, which little helpers I use...
The third verse shall deal with one's offspring. This verse will stand for the future after the verses that dealt with the past (Romans) and the present (traces on the internet). At the moment I am putting down lines, phrases, and words that might fit in.
lines:
proud parents of a new born boy (correct number of syllables yet wrong meter/intonation - might do anyway)
their long awaited offspring (would fit)
tiny hands waving about
smacking lips a seaking mouth
follow in his father's footsteps
words:
descendant, successor, heir, to inherit
Nothing much, is there? But then, I only need eight lines with 8, 7, 8, 7 / 7, 5-6, 6, and 5-6 syllables, respectively. The meter may not be that restrictive, actually. The tune in my mind often begins with an upbeat note that might be omitted like in the lines 6 and 8 of the two completed verses:
that very much is theirs (upbeat)
- versus -
thriving, vivid, blithe (no upbeat)
and
we are the Romans' heirs (upbeat)
- versus -
in his prime of life (upbeat)
Also, a single note might be replaced with two short ones or vice versa. Yet the closer I stick with one particular meter the better.
