My creativity has recovered :-)

I've completed one of my text fragments:

Verse
the bread was stale, the butter smelly, my stomach would revolt
I was worried that yet again my car could strike or bolt
the phone was ringing, the coffee cold, time was running low
I grabbed my coat, I slammed the door, still I would be too slow

Verse
my office lay in ruins just as I'd left it yesterday
the boss wanted to see me - I was right on my way
knowing I had failed again I expected nothing good
he was at a loss of words - I said I understood

[these two verses had been there before]

Lift
so it came as expected
I had hit the wall
tired and dejected
I put up with my fall

Chorus
nothing left to do
but take it lying down
waiting for the moment
that you'll finally drown

my wife had left the week before as I had feared she would
I'd been tense and I'd been tetchy, I had been no good
she said I need not bother, she would stay with her mom
although I'd seen it coming it hit me like a bomb

[I first wrote "she said I need not bother since she'd met someone else" but there seems to be no rhyme to "else"]

so it came as expected
I had hit the wall
tired and dejected
I put up with my fall

nothing left to do
but take it lying down
waiting for the moment
that you'll finally drown

[instrumental part?]

so it came as expected
I had hit the wall
tired and dejected
I put up with my fall

nothing left to do
but take it lying down
waiting for the moment
that you'll finally drown

The title "burned out" does not even occur in the text, never mind. It is inspired by our neighbor (poor soul!). I used Rhymezone to discover "dejected", "fall", and "drown". I also used Rhymer.com and my Penguin Rhyming Dictionary trying to find anything that might rhyme with "else" - to no avail, as you see.
