I describe my ongoing lyrics writing projects. Where I get my ideas, how I match my words with other people's music, which little helpers I use...
I've altered the chorus of "ever and ever" that I'll rename either "together forever" or "now and forever" or "I'm ready" (the latter two are suggestions by Robert):
I’m ready to say the words "I love you - now and forever"
I’m ready to take the oath "I’ll be true - now and forever"
I’m ready to see the truth "I love you - now and forever"
I'm ready to seize our chance "we can be together forever"
a love to last
to last forever and a day
Then I've written a rather simple lyric for a rather simple tune by Niklas:
I go this way and you go that way
I go upstairs when you come downstairs
you move backwards when I move forwards
I go this way and you go that way
I look upwards while you look downwards
I move leftwards when you step rightwards
you step that side and I step this side
I look upwards while you look downwards
... and so on ...
And I've written a chorus for a new little project, a song that I'll call "whose side are you on":
is it me or him?
it is right or wrong!
you got to decide
whose side you're on
is it now or then?
don't wait too long!
you got to decide
whose side you're on
That's all there is to this song at the moment, but it's the centerpiece!
And I've re-written the (now) first verse of "who I am" to make it suitable for younger singers, I also added a pinch of salt ;-)
I know a happy colored garden hut
where I can taste some secret fruit
fleeting passions with some slut
to forget the world of brutes
I must admit that there are times when this constant flow of ideas in my mind amazes myself. Similar to what Paul Watzlawick said, "you cannot NOT communicate", you cannot stop thinking. As long as you live there is a constant flow of perceptions, thoughts, daydreams, and ideas. Hence there cannot exist anything like a "writer's block" either* The real question actually is what you decide to concentrate on.

* the first YouTube lecture on lyrics writing that I had planned was to be about "writer's block"(!) Yet I scrapped the first version. Maybe I'll get back to creating YouTube lectures or a YouTube blog, maybe not. At the moment my focus is on - well, try to guess - yep, on lyrics writing ;-)
