I describe my ongoing lyrics writing projects. Where I get my ideas, how I match my words with other people's music, which little helpers I use...
As I have written before, intonation is more important than the syllable count when you try to write lyrics that are supposed to match an existing tune. After listening to Sandro's tune several times I adjusted the text, and also gave hints how the melody should be adjusted. I'm leaving my notes (in square brackets) in the text, so you can see what I mean. Only the fourth verse ("have to earn ...) matches exactly with always the first syllable stressed. Take that as the basic pattern, so you can see how the other verses are supposed to work:
virtuality
I'm a tough guy, I'm a hero
in front of my screen
I reduce all fiends to zero
while I remain unseen ["while" short, stress on "I"]
earphones, joystick, and my keyboard
are all I need to kill ["are" short, stress on "all"]
avenger, killer, or just fighter ["a.." short, stress on "..venge.."]
I surely get my thrill ["I" short, stress on "sure..."]
I'm a he-man
in the virtual scene
confident only
in the virtuality
I feel worn out in the mornings
after nights on the net [rest between "nights" and "on"]
when the coming days are dawning
like some unknown threat
have to earn my humble living
in a state of void
life can be so unforgiving
and I feel annoyed
I'm a he-man
in the virtual scene
confident only
in the virtuality
No, I don't miss a thing
No, I don't miss a touch
real, living persons
can become too much
No, I don't miss bein' loved
No, I don't miss bein' hurt
hints of reality
put me on the alert
I'm a he-man
in the virtual scene
confident only
in the virtuality
