"twelve" will become "glad that you're here"

"twelve" is the working title I gave a riff - and later the arrangement around that riff - that I developed playing the twelve-string. I completed the arrangement today adding a simple bass line. Then I figured out how many text parts I would need and how many syllables I might have to fit in. There are two verses, a chorus - actually not a real chorus but some kind of break, and a bridge. Matching syllable counts could be:

13-14, 7-8, 13-14, 7-8 for the verses; 2, 3, and 2 for the 'chorus'; and 4, 4, 5 for the bridge.

Since I couldn't come up with any new ideas I checked my collection of lyrics that haven't got a tune to them yet. They would also have to match the mood of the music which I find tender and romantic. That's why I chose glad that you're here. I had to re-write the lyrics to match them with the music. And had have to make amendments to the chorus. This is what the text looks like now:

I am past and I am now
I feel like I float somehow
I am six and I am sixtyfive

I am lost and I am found
at times I tread on shaky ground
holding on to my humble life

glad that you bear with me
glad that you're here with me
glad that you're here

glad that you bear with me
glad that you're here with me
glad that you're here

I am still - the young boy
messing 'round - with his toy
at the same time I am your old man

I am lost and I am found
at times I tread on shaky ground
trying to do the best - I can

glad that you bear with me
glad that you're here with me
glad that you're here

and though I'm smiling for no reason
and though we're living with no reason
still we seem - to get along
