I describe my ongoing lyrics writing projects. Where I get my ideas, how I match my words with other people's music, which little helpers I use...
black waters
conformism I took for adaption
flatt'ry for popularity
cheating my way through school and study
ingratiation smoothed my way
our life's purpose was beyond me
why did people make such a fuss
I always tried to take things easy
there was no such thing as a must
wading through black waters
on this lightless day
I can feel the tide
drag my feet away
neither sign nor beacon
that could light my way
afraid to lose my mind
in this endless grey
now I think that on reflection
I can't make out my identity
I can't find love, neither give it
I'm worried 'bout my sanity
wading through black waters
on this lightless day
I can feel the tide
drag my feet away
neither sign nor beacon
that could light my way
afraid to lose my mind
in this endless grey
I see the worry in your eyes
why are you crying?
I see the sorrow in your eyes
why are you crying?
wading through black waters
on this lightless day
I can feel the tide
drag my feet away
neither sign nor beacon
that could light my way
afraid to lose my mind
in this endless grey

A little "sense of recognition", a little "lost", a little "you are the light", in other words: a typical(?) 'Harmsen'. I like the bridge a lot, short as it is. And I edited the chorus, leaving out the 'astray'-part, by which I also gained a more even pattern (with the typical common time or two-four time bar you would usually prefer 2, 4, or 8 lines of text per part).
