house of worms

Writing a song about a 'house of worms' has been on my mind since about three years. I also found a few entries in my 'scrap book' that I did not refer to, however, when writing the whole song down in a matter of minutes yesterday evening. The chorus goes:

one day I'll smoke them out
one day I'll laugh aloud
and I'll stand tall and proud
one day I will not care
one day I will declare
war on this
house of worms

But I was not happy with the bridge that first read:

I won't let life pass me by
to earn some measly bucks

I will say a last Good Bye

to a crowd of lame ducks

The expression 'lame ducks' seemed too weak, and a 'last Good Bye' did not exactly agree with the more unrealistic attitude of the chorus, so I rewrote the bridge today consulting my Penguin Rhyming Dictionary for words that would rhyme with 'by' and make sense in the context. I came up with 'sucks' all by myself ;-)

I won't let life pass me by
only to earn some measly bucks
one day I will nullify
this dreary working place that sucks
