I describe my ongoing lyrics writing projects. Where I get my ideas, how I match my words with other people's music, which little helpers I use...
The story until now:
top secret - I'm working on yet another song
ever and ever - an alternate chorus
The procedure for the verses is much the same as for the chorus, except that they are supposed to differ, and that they either describe a situation or provide the story which then lead towards the chorus.
So it's step 3 - finding any dummy text that matches the music's meter - and step 4 - replacing the dummy text with words that actually make sense - again.
I put down this dummy text for the verses:
wether the weather is good or if it rains and snows
or wether the rain pours down upon our humid earth
never will I give in, never will I give you
what you seem to want
never will I give in
never will I give in
It's neither nice nor does it make much sense. But that's not important here, this text only served as a template.
And these are the verses that I wrote using my 'template':
now that the storm has calmed, now that the sun's come out again [could be "... and the sun" whichever fits better]
and now that the day looks just as bright as the first day
I see our love again, I see our friendship
I see it with fresh eyes
let's start anew again
reaching for new heights
each love has its lows, each friendship has its ups and downs
but now that I see the first hint of a smile behind your frown
I see our love again, I see our friendship
I see it with fresh eyes
let's start anew again
reaching for new heights
When writing and re-writing the verses I listen to the music again and again and try to envision my words sung to its melody. I use the syllable count (13 syllables in the first two lines) as an indicator. Yet, as the floe and intonation are more important I fine-tune my words accordingly. My first line has an additional syllable. In my mind it fitted better that way than the first version - "... and the sun's come out again" - that I had put down.
Lest I forget: I had the 'male' version of the chorus in mind when writing the verses:
I'm ready to say the words "I love you - ever and ever"
I'm ready to take the oath "I'll be true - ever and ever"
I'm ready to say the words "I love you - ever and ever"
I'm ready to take the oath "I'll be true - ever and ever"
a love to last
to last forever and a day
