diggin' deep

A simple riff or chord progression, E-D-A, and a vague idea that the song might be about a guy finding out his girlfriend was all I had. The title "dig deep" or digging deep" somehow lingered in my mind.

Anyway, I went about it in quite the wrong order, recording the guitar riff first (it is so very simple and so much fun to play!), next adding drums (MIDI) and the bass (also MIDI). Thus, I completed the accompaniment before having the slightest idea as for its tune or lyrics.

I listened to my recording today and tried to find matching lines.

"can't stand their/these grinning faces" was the first line that sprang to my mind. looking up rhymes for "faces" I came across "kicking over the traces" (discarding words like "places" or "spaces").
