I describe my ongoing lyrics writing projects. Where I get my ideas, how I match my words with other people's music, which little helpers I use...

dancing in the rain - finished

I had brought a dummy text with me so I could work on the lyric during my vacation. But, as I have mentioned several times here before, matching text with tunes depends much more on matching its meter, i.e. its intonation or the stresses, than on matching just the number of notes or syllables. When listening to the music today I found that I had to re-write several parts.

there's no sunshine ev'ry day
storm or breeze - heat or freeze
need not spoil your day
if you just
heed what I say

became:

there's no sunshine ev'ry day
storm or breeze - heat or freeze
can't spoil a fine day
if you just
heed what I say

I altered the third line, so the stress lies on "fine" whereas it would have to be shifted from "spoil" to "your" in my first version to match the tune (you can do such things in a song but it's not actually great and should be avoided, if possible).

I also altered the second parts of the verses. For example,

never mind a black cloud
try ignoring any lows and downs
nothing's serious
it's all the same
...

became:

never mind a black cloud
just don't ever let it get you down
sometimes you're blue
sometimes you're high

The second line actually would have worked nicely. I just found it a bit clumsy. But the line "nothing's serious" did not fit at all. You can easily tell without having to listen to Alex' tune by just comparing it with "sometime's you're blue".

Well, after a number of changes like these the lyrics now fit perfectly. Neither a single tune nor a single rest to be added!
