"18" is another of Karsten's songs. Since the melody varies quite largely, and the last part seems to me to represent the idea best, I've startet working on it back to front. Karsten's working title refers to the time of coming of age, when you're are allowed to drink spirits, have the right to vote etc. My idea for the chorus is not so bad I should think:
I can't wait
I'm ready to be free
and take my life in my hands
wait and see
what will become of me
I may surprise my old friends
you will see
that I have found the key
and I'll discover new lands
I can't wait
I'm ready to be free
and take my life in my hands
I struggled with the pre-chorus. At the moment I have:
Mum and Dad, I don't want to cause you sorrow
I'll be off, but I'll be back tomorrow
when I come and I should not be sober
that just means my childhood days are over
I experimented with the line "I'm old enough now to be my own master" and picked "disaster" from the rhyming dictionary, but couldn't come up with a matching line. "don't look that gloomy, my life won't lead into disaster" was one line I discarded. Too many syllables. The first line didn't fit that well either.
For the moment I will leave the pre-chorus part as it is and proceed from there. I think it's quite okay when there is a contrast of rather ordinary or frivolous parts and the more serious chorus. I'll keep working along these lines.
