I've listened to Karsten's Midi file again only to find that my former suggestion for a chorus is sheer bullshit. First, the tune is quite cheerful, so a text about remembering a failure did not exactly fit. Second, I missed the upbeat in the last verse. My simple notation obscures such subtleties. It should have read "X - - X | - X - X - X" instead of "X - - X - | X - X - X". There's a huge difference! My notation is not meant to represent bars but lines as they are sung, I missed that.
So here's my new suggestion for the chorus (note the elegance of the last two lines, and how wonderfully they fit):
memories remain,
memories that last
closing my eyes
I can relive the past
