them young ones

Vanity was a very, very old lady I have written and sung about. Well, she had been young once, and the "Vanitas" sculpture I mentioned the other day actually has two sides: the young, vain woman, and the old, pruney one.

Every once in a while I write about young ladies as well. Since Rock music is all about sex, they actually occur quite often - in a more or less obvious manner. Sometimes they are very young indeed. Here are excerpts from "Violet" and "Sabrina". I came up with "Violet" when hiking in the woods (and marveling at all those little blooming violets). And "Sabrina" was the name of a temporary colleague in our team. I liked the name, such she provided the name for the song, but she did not serve as a model for the girl I'm singing about. For this Sabrina was much too old - about 23 or so ;-)


Violet

in sleepless, restless nights
she tosses and she turns
is it some nameless fear
or that she just yearns
for things still opaque
...

Violet in first bloom
it's spring and it's to soon to pick you
old hunter's smelling blood
patiently awaits his time
for the perfect shot

some dirty old bastard
will not yet contend
himself with the notion
that each life must end
while other lives thrive
...

Sabrina

when our eyes met I felt that something was quite wrong
you looked so very young and cute, and yet you were so strong
my mind was in a turmoil, and I cursed that very day
you said I need not worry 'cause love always finds a way

Sabrina, you took me by the hand
you said you'd lead me to another land
where our love could survive
where we'd not have to hide
you know how I feel:
if this land was real
I would follow you through the end
