I haven't heard from Alex again. Maybe he doesn't like my writing style. Anyway, since I didn't receive a new or altered composition I simply completed the lyrics for the tune that I've got, which I actually like a lot.
The pattern for the verses goes like this (the 'X' mark stresed syllables, '.' are sort of optional):
X - X - - X - X .
X - - X - - X - .
. X - X - - X - X -
X - X - X -
. X - - X
The corresponding numbers of syllables:
8/9
8/9
9/10
6
4/5
Since line 1 and 3 actually have the same melody to them, they might have 8 to 10 syllables (while 10 would include an upbeat). After completion I check my texts by singing them while I listen to the soundtrack. Alex - or maybe a friend - sings "da da m da da m da da ..." on the mp3 file he sent. (A note: for the word 'hotel' the stress should lie on the first syllable, which would not be quite correct. I could alter the term to 'cocktail bar' , but then the line "she only said that she'd stay a week" would not make much sense ...).
And here it is:
Chorus
how can I make her take me seriously
what may I look like in her eyes
I am afraid that she might laugh 'bout me
behind a friendly smile
Verse 1
I had met her in a hotel bar
we had a drink and talked 'bout us
I told her how my life had been so far
she said she lived alone
that she lived alone
my age was an issue that came up
I didn't know where to go from there
she toyed with an empty coffee cup
I said that I would phone
Verse 2
I asked her wether we could meet again
she only said that she'd stay a week
I have no clue about the how and when
I feel left in the dark
left in the dark
is it my youth or insecurity
she's kind enough but also somewhat cool
I ask myself what could be wrong with me
am I off the mark?
