Okay, okay - that was not how Craig envisioned the song. I had thought as much. I reshaped my 2nd version of "Hold on" slightly by shifting the second 'pre-chorus' to its appropriate place. And I will write yet another version with verses, prechoruses, chorus, and bridge this time. Actually the only missing parts are two verses. Craig even sent a piece of text that can serve as a template for them:
we've known each other for so very long
but lately it seems, things are going wrong
I've been sitting here, lonely feeling blue
we don't do the things, that we used to do
