Another 'unusual' title I wrote for Marc from Austria. And another he never set to music either. I later recorded the title myself - it's one of the few songs of mine which had the verses completed without any melody associated with them. Actually, the verses were not suited for Marc anyway since he was only 19 then while the verses refer to a friend of 'mine' - the singer - who had been gone for years:

you left to travel the world without a single dime
and though we all thought that you'd be back in no time
you kept gone for years

You'd have to be 25 or older to sing that convincingly.

As for the 'unusual' content I thought of the rumours of Chinese eating live monkey brain. The rumours refer to the city of Guangzhou, by the way, not Honkong. And I called it "monkey stew" because I found that it sounds better. The verses actually describe the adventures of a friend who actually had travelled the world for about two or three years. In Australia he had driven trucks, jobbed as an electrician, and worked as a cowboy (called Jakaroo in Australia). He also claimed that he had dived for treasures in the Golden Triangle. The one jumping over lava flow was another friend. So, much of the text actually is true or comes close to the truth. The one who fought with a Kangaroo was myself, in case you wondered ...
